Our Team

The Papworth Design team brings over 35 years of collective landscape design experience delivering projects across Australia and internationally including in Japan, China and the Middle East.

Founding Director Brendan Papworth has worked for a number of leading landscape architecture, design and consulting firms including Chris Dance Land Design, Context Conybeare Morrison, Land Design Partnership, EDAW, AECOM, and Environmental Resources Management.

Brendan Papworth

Practice Director

Brendan studied landscape architecture in Australia and Japan. He draws on over 30 years’ experience working in design studios in Melbourne and Osaka and on projects throughout Australia and overseas. Brendan is the Director of Papworth Design Pty Ltd.

Prior to starting Papworth Design, Brendan has worked for a number of Melbourne-based landscape architecture practices as well as larger internationally-based multi-disciplinary companies.

After founding Papworth Design in 2012, Brendan joined with former colleague and friend, Rob Davies, to form Papworth Davies in 2015. After six years the business reverted back to Papworth Design in 2021.

Brendan’s expertise and experience covers the full breadth of design project types – large residential aged care and retirement living projects; corporate and commercial buildings; strategic landscape planning of open space and waterways; city and town streetscapes; campus planning; parks and recreation planning and design; and smaller private residential projects.

Elyssia Hicks

Landscape Architect

Elyssia brings an impressive background to Papworth Design including a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from Melbourne University as well as many years working for a commercial nursery providing a strong design and horticultural bedrock to all of her project contributions. 

Through her strong planting knowledge, Elyssia takes a lead role in planting design and coordination for our projects. She has managed a large range of projects across a variety of sectors in the industry including health and aged care, education facilities, council reserves and open space development, private residential gardens, and commercial developments and is a very highly valued member of the practice. 

Elyssia’s skills and expertise, as well as her friendly and optimistic outlook, ensures a thorough and thoughtful outcome to each project that she is involved with and an enjoyable professional experience for Clients and consultants alike. 

Duo Zhang

  • Masters Degree, Landscape Architecture (RMIT Melbourne)
  • Bachelor Degree, Landscape Architecture (Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, China)
Landscape Architect

Duo graduated in Landscape Architecture at RMIT with a Masters Degree and has previously worked for graphic design and architecture practices before joining Papworth Design. 

Duo’s excellent skills in design and graphic production ensure a sophistication and thorough resolution to our conceptual and detailed landscape outputs while his skills in detail site planning and grading add an extra quality dimension to the design resolution of our projects.

Duo has worked on design and documentation of open space and park projects in China as well as aged care and open space design projects in Melbourne. His attention to detail and commitment to beautiful and legible outputs as well as his infectious smile are highly valued qualities in our design practice.

Harrison Baxter

  • Currently Completing Masters Degree, Landscape Architecture (University of Melbourne)
Student Landscape Architect

Harrison joined Papworth Design in 2023, quickly establishing himself as an important and valued member of the team and brings great character and attention to his work, drawing on his passions for indigenous and native revegetation projects which he also oversees as a volunteer.

Harrison contributes strongly to projects across a range of scales and sectors through his technical skills and well-considered and thorough detail documentation outputs for works to be constructed.

Other past roles in Landscape Construction assists him greatly in making important contributions to the design process of our projects, particularly at the detail design phase of projects. His other outside interests in volunteer habitat restoration work, native flora and fauna and  also demonstrate admirable qualities for a Landscape Architect for a design studio such as ours.

Our Clients

We work for private clients to help plan landscapes for development purposes, or to upgrade an existing property. In the public sphere, we work with local government officers to assist with the design of public spaces and infrastructure projects.
