This forecourt within La Trobe University’s Bundoora main campus which was completed in 2016 is a vibrant and beautiful space addressing the front of the Thomas Cherry Building and integrating with the campus’ main bus interchange area. What was once a denuded space is now a well-used plaza with a number of different landscape spaces and connections.

Existing large River Red Gum trees were carefully considered and retained within the design through the design of pathways and passive areas of lawn and through the use of extensive permeable paving. The forecourt’s existing 10 metre high bronze sculpture, “Dante’s Divine Comedy” by Bart Sanciolo, was retained within a new decked space to enhance its setting and allow for greater opportunities for students and staff to use the space and appreciate the sculpture.
