Our Client’s house at Brighton-East had a rear paved terrace area that was insufficient in size for the Client’s needs, was unsightly, as well as very exposed to the afternoon sun. The brief was to create a more generous space for entertaining as well as to try and resolve the significant sun exposure issues that also affected the interior temperatures and amenity of the rear of the house.
The design solution was a large robust pergola and more generously designed terrace area. Using detailed digital modelling of sun-tracking through the year, we were able to accurately design a pergola that provided a well-shaded outcome to the house and the space.
Through the use of subtle stone clad walls and steps, the terrace area integrates beautifully with the adjoining lawn and garden areas and provides for better connections across the lawn to the swimming pool. The flexibility of the terrace space now accommodates for relaxed outdoor use as well as large extended family gatherings on big occasions.
